Primary Uses:

• Anxiety disorders: Short-term relief of severe anxiety symptoms.
• Muscle spasms: Treatment of acute conditions like cerebral palsy, athetosis, or trauma-related spasms.
• Alcohol withdrawal: Management of symptoms such as agitation, tremors, and delirium tremens.
• Seizures: Adjunct therapy for status epilepticus or febrile convulsions.
• Sedation: Pre-medication before surgery or procedures; also for insomnia (short-term).
• Other: Adjunct in tetanus or stiff-person syndrome.

The 10 mg dose is considered high (typical doses: 2-10 mg/day for anxiety; up to 40 mg/day for spasms/withdrawal). Use lowest effective dose, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

Common Side Effects:

• Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, ataxia (impaired coordination).
• Confusion, memory impairment, slurred speech.

Serious Side Effects:

• Respiratory depression (especially with opioids/alcohol).
• Paradoxical reactions (agitation, aggression).
• Dependence, tolerance, withdrawal (seizures, anxiety rebound).
• Hypotension, falls/fractures (in elderly).
• Rare: Anterograde amnesia, suicidal ideation.

Warnings: Avoid abrupt discontinuation; risk of overdose. Not for long-term use (>4 weeks). Contraindicated in glaucoma, severe respiratory issues, pregnancy (Category D). Consult a doctor.
